Timing
The Tri-Loppet will be chip-timed by Championchip Minnesota. There will be split times for the three individual segments of the event. Timing mats will be located at the paddle-run transition at Brownie; at the run-bike transition near Wirth Beach and at the finish line. Timing chips must be worn on the ankle of each competitor to be read by the timing mats. Timing chips must be returned after the event. Participants who do not return their timing chips will be charged $30 for a lost timing chip. Teams will be provided with one timing chip per team. One of the paddlers must wear the timing chip on her or his ankle (the timing chips attach with a Velcro strap). After the team boat is past the boat portage line (about 50’ out of the water), the timing chip must be transferred to the ankle of the team runner. As soon as the chip is transferred the runner may begin running. Similarly, after the run, the team runner must transfer the timing chip to the ankle of the team biker. As soon as the chip is transferred the team biker may begin racing (there is no biking allowed in the bicycle/transition pen – biking may only begin after the biker has walked the bike out of the pen).
Race Day Boat & Bike Transportation
Boats:
Participants are responsible for transporting their own boats, including dropping boats off at the start area (there will be no security at the start area – participants are responsible for their own equipment). After the paddling is completed, the boats will be placed in a secured area (which means someone will be watching them), which will be secured until 2 p.m. Participants who fail to pick up their boat by 2 p.m. will be responsible for any loss or damage. Participants may pick up their boats by presenting their race number that matches the boat. Participants using rental boats do not need to transport their boats. After the event rental boats will be transported by Tri-Loppet volunteers.
Bicycles:
Participants are responsible for transporting their own bicycles, including dropping bicycles off at the run-bike transition area. Bicycles must be placed in the secured pen at the run-bike transition area. The pen will be open from 7 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. for drop-off. After the biking is completed, the bicycles may be placed back in the secured pen, which will be secured until 2 p.m. Participants who fail to pick up their bicycle by 2 p.m. will be responsible for any loss or damage. Participants may pick up their bicycles by presenting their race number that matches the bicycle.
Parking and Transportation for Participants & Spectators
There is no parking at the start area! Parking is in the Calhoun Executive Center’s lot at the corner of Calhoun Parkway and Excelsior Boulevard (the Executive Center has a sailboat on the roof). Participants and spectators are strongly encouraged to park at the Calhoun Executive Center, just across the parkway from the north end start area.
At 9:05 a.m. a shuttle bus will carry spectators and participants to Brownie Lake and Wirth Beach.
From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. the shuttle bus will run between Brownie Lake and Wirth Beach
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the shuttle bus will run between the Executive Center, Wirth Beach and Brownie Lake. There will only be one shuttle bus so participants in a rush should make other arrangements.
Spectators may find that bicycling is the best means of watching the race. An extensive system of parkways runs adjacent to most of the course. (See http://www.minneapolisparks.org for more information).
